Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration Plan Meeting

Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration Plan Meeting
The Friends of Claytor Lake and the Army Corps of Engineers held a public meeting
on Saturday, January 21st regarding The Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration Plan For
Claytor Lake
. The meeting was held as a forum for discussion between all
stakeholders of Claytor Lake and the Corps of Engineers. It took place over a
period of three hours from 2 to 5 in the afternoon in the Richardson Auditorium
on the NRCC Campus. The extended meeting time was designed to allow stakeholders
time to air their concerns, provide valuable input to the Corps and to become familiar
with some of the alternatives being examined for the project.

Corps engineers and Claytor Lake stakeholders discuss the impacted areas of the lake.

There was some very good discussion between the Corps and those stakeholders
present (including discussions of the highly impacted areas of the lake, hydrilla
infestation, the idea of catching debris before it enters the lake, the management
of the sedimentation process through dredging and the construction of point bars
and islands)—but we had hoped for a greater turnout from the Claytor Lake
Community.

In an effort to encourage your participation, we thought it might be a good idea to
introduce you to the members of the Corps who are working on this project:

Representatives of the Corps working on the Aquatic Ecosystem Plan:

Ben Borda     Amanda Dethman   Janet Cote       Lisa Morgan       John Preston

In addition, we want to make sure you’re familiar with the representatives of the
partners on this project:

As a stakeholder in the future of Claytor Lake, your participation and support of this
project is vital! Another meeting along these lines—to obtain stakeholder input and
provide an update on the Corps’ thinking on the project—is being planned for June.
Be on the lookout for the date of this next meeting and come and meet the engineers
and project partners in person!
