Update on the Lake Clean-Up Operation
We were scheduled to get started on May 15. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. The
delay is a result of equipment issues. AEP actually owns the conveyor which conveys
the debris from the lake to the roll-off trash container and they have had it assigned
to be repaired by the Smith Mountain Lake clean-up crew. Ample time during winter
months was allowed for repairs but due to schedule changes with AEP, FOCL did not
receive the conveyor until mid-July. In addition, the roll-off barge was discovered to
have completely rusted out and new 1/8th inch steel plate has been welded into place
at a cost of $5,000.00. FOCL very much appreciates the response we received through
the membership drive which made this repair possible. Water proof paint has been
applied and we anticipate being in clean-up mode on Wednesday August 9, 2006.

Membership Campaign
We’ve had a great turnout in response to our membership campaign and want to
thank all of you who have renewed your membership in the Friends of Claytor Lake.
We are going to recognize our members in an upcoming e-news and are pleased to
report that we have had several from the Claytor Lake Community join at high
membership levels. Of course, the New River never stops flowing, our work never
ends and we greatly appreciate your renewed membership each and every year.
