1. New FOCL Website
Please check out our new website. It’s been up and running for about a month now.
We have held off announcing it to give us time to try and work out any kinks. It’s
an on-going project that we hope will serve the Claytor Lake Community well. Our
goal was to simplify and reorganize it, add archived information and enable it to be
updated more easily so that we will be able to update it in a timely fashion. Let us
know what you think. Your comments are appreciated.

Also we’d like to put in a good word for Troy Settle and Pulaski Networks and thank
them for providing the site to us free of charge.

2. Upcoming FOCL Board Meeting at State Park Conference Center*
The regularly scheduled FOCL Board meeting (normally held at the Dublin Town Hall
Council Chambers) coming up Tuesday, November 14th, will be held in the State
Park Conference Center. If you haven’t seen this brand new and beautiful Conference
Center, now’s a good time to check it out. We’ll meet at 6:00pm.

3. Contributed Services to FOCL
Thought you’d find this interesting: The Friends of Claytor Lake has great support
throughout the community--besides your membership contributions, many contribute
to the Claytor Lake Community through FOCL with non-monetary contributions of
time and services. Through fiscal year 2006 (ended in June) the total value of
contributed services to the Friends of Claytor Lake amounted to $222,925! We
sincerely appreciate each and every one of you.
4. The Boy Scouts’ Claytor Lake Aquatics Base
Pulaski County and Claytor Lake play an important role in the Boy Scouts of America
...and vice versa. Nearly ten thousand Boy Scouts and their leaders come to Pulaski
County every year to the area’s camps to build leadership skills, confidence and self
esteem. Claytor Lake Aquatics Base is part of the Blue Ridge Mountain Scout
Reservation--the largest Council-owned camp in the country. Boy Scouts and their
leaders come to Pulaski county from over 30 States (as far as Colorado!) to attend
summer camp in our beautiful part of the USA.

In 2004, Appalachian Power granted a 70-acre easement on Claytor Lake to the Boy
Scouts of America. There is currently a campaign to develop this easement to make
it an even better place for Boy Scouts to learn, grow to become good citizens of our
fine country, and have fun. To learn more about the Boy Scouts’ Blue Ridge
Mountain Council and Claytor Lake Aquatics Base follow this link:

Our support and involvement with the Boy Scouts of America is just one of the many
things that should make us proud of our Claytor Lake Community.
5. Claytor Lake Drawdown Reminder
Don’t forget the the drawdown of Claytor Lake is scheduled to begin on Monday,
November 20, 2006. The Lake is scheduled to be drawn down 5’ by November 25.
Refill to begin December 9th. Weather and water supply could affect these dates.
