1. 2007 Member Listing Coming!
Be sure to be looking for our next FOCL e-news recognizing our 2007 members. We
want you to know how much we appreciate your support of our work because it is
only through your help that we can succeed in caring for Claytor Lake. To show our
appreciation, we will recognize all members in the next e-news. And if you haven’t
renewed your membership in The Friends of Claytor Lake, please consider it now.
You make a difference and we thank you for your continued support!

4. Link to Boating Safety Bill
We wanted all Claytor Lake Stakeholders to have easy access to the Virginia Boating
Safety Bill and are providing it here:
The Bill Summary as introduced:
HB 2374 Boating Safety education; Patron: Allen W. Dudley
Mandatory boating safety education; penalty. Makes it a Class 4 misdemeanor for anyone to operate
a motorboat without having successfully completed an approved boating safety education course.
The education requirement is phased-in so that by July 1, 2016, all motorboat operators will have
been required to complete and pass the course or an equivalency exam. The Board is directed to
develop and administer the mandatory boating safety education program through the promulgation
of regulations, taking into account comments from the public. There are a number of ways a person
can comply with the law other than successfully completing an approved course, such as passing an
equivalency examination, possessing a valid license issued to maritime personnel, etc.

5. Pulaski County Comprehensive Plan
With Claytor Lake residing entirely in Pulaski County and being such a vital link to
Pulaski’s future, we thought it would be a good idea to include a link to Pulaski
County’s Comprehensive plan to help promote awareness and participation in this
plan. You can reach the plan through the link on our website:

6. Preliminary Drawdown Information
At the present time, AEP plans to begin lowering the lake on Monday, Nov. 19,
have it down 5 feet by Saturday, Nov. 24 and start filling on Dec. 8. Note that
with the current drought conditions, AEP is releasing the same amount of water
that is coming into the lake so the level won't drop lower. However, if the current
low inflows continue, AEP may not be able to have the drawdown this year. AEP
will continue to assess the situation...and like the rest of us, hope for rain!
