Proposed RV Park
Due to an overwhelming attendance by Claytor Lake property owners at tonight’s FOCL Public Meeting. FOCL has agreed to post the proposed plan for a RV Park in the back of Dublin Hollow. Attached is the original proposal to be presented to the Pulaski County Planning Commission for a special use permit for rezoning of the property. FOCL will appreciate anyone willing to share their opinion on this project.
Pulaski County’s planning commission meeting is slated for Tuesday, March 13th at 7:00pm. If you would like to submit any comments to the planning commission you can email dwilson@pulaskicounty.org.
UPDATE 3-14-18
The Pulaski County Planning Commission met last night to vote on the Special Use Permit submitted for the proposed RV park in Dublin Hollow. The vote was 6-1 in favor of denying the permit to the property owner for use of the proposed RV park. The recommendation will still go before the Board of Supervisors for consideration. You can find their meeting schedule on our Events page or by going to https://www.boarddocs.com/va/copva/Board.nsf/Public
UPDATE 3-20-18
The property owner who proposed the RV park has withdrawn his request for a Special Use Permit from Pulaski County. The property is still able to be developed as residential in the future.

Wilderness and Claytor Dam Roads have tight curves that are difficult for passenger vehicles to negotiate and remain in the proper travel lane. Large motor homes will NOT be able to negotiate these curves without crossing the center line. There are no shoulders and deep ditches/drop offs from the road surface. Two motor homes travelling in opposite directions will not be able to pass each other in certain sections of the curves. From a public safety standpoint, this is a single point of access. If there is an accident anywhere past the intersection of Hazel Hollow Road, emergency access is cutoff to a lot of homes and the AEP dam. Please do not approve this permit!

Please add my name to those opposed to Blue Sky RV Park. The narrow, winding road in that area would easily cause chaos when RV’s and any large vehicles pulling boats try to navigate the numerous sharp curves. The roads involved in getting to the property in question offer no other options.

Interesting, AEP proposed a public ramp at the end of Claytor Dam Rd, on their property. VDOT studied the increase traffic with trucks and or cars pulling boats and determined that wilderness and hazelhollow are not engineered to handle the proposed traffic. Further the additional traffic would pose considerable danger to users of this road. Adding RV traffic and motor home with or w/o towed vehicles will pose the same dangers. Very bad idea unless major road improvements are made to accommodate traffic load.

There are a hell of a lot more people who make that cove unsafe as it is. With another campground close by, jet skis, wakeboard boats, and even a plane. I think the whole cove should be addressed with or without the addition of a RV park for safety. A RV park would certainly compound the issue as well as have a certain change to property values.

So if the RV park was only proposing 20 boats (estimated), how many boats would be allowed if the property was subdivided as residential? I’m guessing more than 20 which makes Dublin Hollow even more dangerous in my opinion.
