Friends of Claytor Lake Marks Significant Cleanup Impact in 2025

Led by a dedicated cleanup crew, the Friends of Claytor Lake delivered major environmental results on Claytor Lake throughout 2025

The Friends of Claytor Lake (FOCL) made substantial progress in protecting and restoring Claytor Lake throughout 2025, removing thousands of tons of debris and improving the lake’s overall health and safety.

Over the course of the year, FOCL coordinated the removal of 211.5 roll off loads of debris. Each load weighed approximately 15 tons, resulting in a total of 3,172.5 tons of woody debris cleared from the lake. These large scale efforts were critical in addressing debris accumulation following fluctuating water levels and seasonal drawdowns.

In addition to woody debris removal, FOCL cleanup efforts included collecting 191 bags of trash, removing 36 tires and wheels, and dismantling and disposing of 13 docks. Crews also recovered numerous unusual and hazardous items from the lake, including barrels, toilet tops, walkways, a jet ski, refrigerators, a seawall, and multiple pilings.

FOCL looks forward to building on this momentum in 2026 and continuing its mission to protect, preserve, and enhance Claytor Lake.
